He loved reading crime novels. He had been reading them since he was six years old. Six years of age? Yes, at that young age he could read any book. As he got older, he began writing, writing diaries, writing on subjects that piqued his interest.
Writing for him was just a pastime, he would write scary stories, stories macabre and weird. In his stories, the protagonist almost always led a discontented life and ended up taking his own life. Such was his style of writing. He loved sad endings, he didn't fancy the idea of a happy ending. I know you'd wonder why he didn't fancy the mawkish. Or why he wrote about gruesome stories with endings that would naturally leave a feeling of dissatisfaction in anyone who cared to read them.
The truth is, he led a discontented life himself. He had friends but he was a loner. He had a brother and two sisters who loved him dearly(step-brother and step-sisters actually). Yet he was discontented and unhappy, well because he hated his step-mother who was always unfair to him. He couldn't hurt his step-mother in reality,so he wrote. He enacted situations in which he would die and his step-mom would pay for her sins.
After writing, he would feel a heavy hate-cloud hovering over him dissipate into thin air. It became his wont to write strange stories after being beaten by his step-mom.This wont would give him a sense of pure release, but only temporarily. Soon, he began writing without provocation, by age 21 he could write excellently -- he had honed his noir fiction-writing skills over the years unknowingly. He diversified his writing too, from sci-fi stories,to adventure and fantasy....
